Oh man, if only every golf day could be as grand as this one. At bit nippy at the beginning but what a gorgeous day after that. The biggest factor, in my mind, was the lack of wind. It could've been similar to last week had the wind come up and put some frost on the old pumpkin but we were very fortunate to play almost the whole round without a whisper of a zephyr. If there was just the slightest breeze it did not hamper our play, nor our spirits. Most everyone showed up and the final tally for attendance stood at 122 - a great turnout for our grand finale.

The course was in quite good shape. The fairways were pretty much as we like them, enough of a growth so the ball would sit up just a tad. And the greens, tho a bit pock marked by old ball craters, were not too bad. Except, except management decided to aerate the greens in the not too distant past leaving the dreaded dimples in the clear cut way to the cup. Frustrating to say the least. But, when you think of it, with everyone hitting from the front tees that distance advantage was nullified in a way by the dimpled greens making true putts only a dream. Any putt outside of 18" was an adventure to say the least.

But the dimples weren't the only thing on the green that proved a bit disconcerting. Did you notice the condition of the cups themselves? I don't think I've ever seen such ragged cups on a course of this stature. They weren't cleanly cut by any means and it appeared they'd been made by a dull hacksaw from my perspective. The only other possible explanation might be that our foursome was right behind Randy Pratt and company and judging by their fine score of -15 they had to have been pounding those holes pretty well, probably just missing slam dunking on a majority of their approaches.

One more comment about the course. Did you happen to notice all the new construction on the hotels surrounding the course? I guess the economy is booming when you see these huge houses being constructed. That's good, it's putting a lot of folks to work for sure.

I had to leave the post round proceedings early to get home for a few minutes before leaving for bowling, which starts at 4:00. It's only 40 miles for me to get home! And speaking of bowling, our whole bowling team (4-man) was at the final outing and we're all at least septuagenarians (even one octogenarian) so you can imagine the physical, and mental, strain on our systems after a tough, but wonderful day on the course. So what, we overcame these hardships and managed to win two of three games against a team of lesser age and maintain a stranglehold on first place in a pretty competitive league. Watch out for next week other teams, we won't be playing golf first!!
