In spite of the impending heat, 115 of us gathered at this "in the subdivision" upscale course in St. Charles county. And the heat didn't disappoint, although the humidity was not as horrible as it could've been. Still the sauna-like conditions were enough to "dampen" many a soul.

I've been away from the keyboard for a while and as some of you know I was on a 2-week vacation with my wife, son, and two grandsons. One of you pleaded with me not to list every detail of this trip so I'll forgo describing every mile of the 3206 that we covered on our journey through Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and finally Missouri again. There, I've said it, now on to more things golf.

At this time I think it special that we recognize one of our long time players who has set a record for consecutive outings, a record that only he could break because of his consistency; Pierre Sans Souci has played in 297 consecutive outings for the past 11 or so years. Now he claimed yesterday at sign-in that he missed one recently but has promised to start a new string since he's worried Ernie South will surpass his insurmountable record. Keep it up Pete, we're all behind you.

The Falls was in pretty good shape in spite of the blistering weather we've encountered over the past few weeks. The fairways were good to great, the rough was good to great, the cart paths were wonderful, and the greens need a separate comment. It appears they're about to lose some of them. They seemed to have been cut very short and gave the appearance of being very quick, although they didn't react that way, in fact seemed a bit slow at times. But they exhibited many near-bare spots which portends a shorter life in my opinion. And then they were watering them in the heat of the day!! To me that's a no-no isn't it? Doesn't mid day watering promote burnout? Maybe these guys know something I don't. Anyway, they rolled pretty true and afforded our foursome a few generous birdies.
