Who needs a weatherman to tell 100 of us when it's going to rain?? In spite of all the dire forecasts we didn't get any rain on us during this round and actually the weather turned out very, very nice for our second outing. Well, that's not entirely true. On our last hole, just as I teed off, I felt one drop of rain - thinking it might be a bird looked skyward ready to curse some oblivious feathered friend only to find none in sight and to make matters more interesting heard my teammates comment that they'd experienced one or two drops themselves. But, that was the extent of it and the day was most pleasant.

As usual this course was in very, very good shape. The fairways, though cut a bit on the short side, were excellent. Our only observation would have to be that they are way too wide for a cart path only scenario, given our penchant for hitting the ball as far from the cart path as possible. We cured this issue for our only octogenarian member by allowing him to hit from just off the cart path if he had an open shot towards the green. And this is a reminder to our members; if you have someone on your team who has issues walking a distance to the ball, horizontally or vertically, we do allow them to hit from the proximity of the cart path if they so wish. It saves you time and the person in particular some extra unnecessary effort.

The greens were very good, running quite true if not a bit on the rapid side. Ironically, yours truly played another course just yesterday and they had just sanded the greens which made for some very, very slow putts. Today was just the opposite, but at least the adjustment was far easier than trying to really smack the ball to get it to move the right distance.

Once again we got to play amongst the landed gentry of Illinois. Some of those houses are sights to behold, eh? And they're all brick! Whoever has the brick concession in this part of the country has got to be in seventh heaven, or at least in a new yacht. And none of these houses are your garden variety 3 bedroom shacks either. I think some could be rented out as small to medium size hotels.
