Perhaps by now most of us have cooled off enough to think about what we did, or didn't do, today. Not sure what the max temperature was when we were out hitting the ball but it had to be mid 90's at least and perhaps higher. 104 of us can attest that it was $%^&!!! hot though. For some reason the course had told Randy that we needed to tee off half an hour earlier than our normal 0800, so we dutifully rousted our bodies out of our wonderful home air conditioning and assembled at the course a half hour earlier than normal.

Well, come to find out, there was no special reason for the early tee time, there was no second tournament scheduled to be right on our heels. Talking with one of the course workers he said he was aware of a one o'clock tee time reservation but for sure not a tournament. Someone was blowing smoke you know where. But actually, with the oppressive heat perhaps it was ok that we started a half hour earlier. And in fact, our foursome finished in 4 hours and 5 minutes, something of a miraculous oddity with this group. And we had to wait on a majority of the holes - how about that?

The course was in fine shape. The fairways were a bit short for my liking, but the greens were running very true. They didn't look like they would what with all the old ball marks and some errant grass patterns, but true they were albeit quite tricky at times, I might add. The course can play long, but with hard fairway conditions and a couple of bombers on your team, the yardages can be gobbled up pretty easily.

I was fully convinced that with the talented foursome that I was encumbered with we would surely be at or near the top of the heap. Well, in fact we were close, but there were other foursomes in the same heap and we did not come into the real gold at the end of the match. Such is life. But we did have an exciting, fun filled day and on one hole especially our exuberance may have gotten the best of us, or should I say gotten the best of the course. Specifically, hole #11, that totally uphill par 4. Our approach shot, actually one of my very few good shots of the day, came to rest just several feet above the hole. Not being able to see said shot until we actually came up to green level, our first glimpse of the shot was met with such enthusiasm and surprise that the driver of one of our carts inadvertently veered toward the green and off the cart path resulting in 4 small posts being driven over and flattened to the ground. They were ok, fortunately. The cart driver was just that in our foursome, a driver for one of the highly skilled bombers who powered our team to its lofty perch in the scoring for the day. His rider had to save his strength for his prodigious production off the tee, and elsewhere.

Results: SCP (Score card playoff) hole was #8, the par 3 over the pond.
