We had 122 smiling, happy-to-be-back-at-it, faces show up at this wonderful course for the inaugural outing of the 2015 ACS. And they should've been smiling because the weather couldn't have been finer. A week ago we held our breath because the forecasts implied chances of rain and knowing our luck at this course, many of us expected the usual downpour before we even teed off. Not this year, Larry "da Commish" Knopfel chose the opening date wisely. One can only assume that those that chose not to play yesterday had other less important things to attend to, such as filing income tax, or some other mundane task like that.

The only things spoiling the great weather were the constant nuisance of the small bugs getting in your eyes as you lined up that crucial putt, and, as in our case, the attack of the rust wasps on our later holes. One never knows when these things are going to turn on the attack mode when you try to act nonchalant around them. They certainly looked nasty, eh?

The course was in its usual great shape and for some reason they even let us drive on most fairways, even on those that had kind of a mushy feel to them. The greens, having gone through a recent aeration/sanding treatment, took some getting used to (like at least 19 holes) and were it not for several "we had no business sinking that miracle putt" our foursome did quite well.

One such miracle of note for us was on #12, that interminably long par 4. Our approach put us perhaps 20+ feet from th e pin with a slight curl to the left putt. Naturally 3 of us missed and then our 4th player struck his putt on a pretty good line. The ball curled around the cup and came to rest several microns from falling in. After waiting the appropriate 5 seconds, wouldn't you know it the ball fell in the cup!!! As it fell you could see the Nike swoosh disappear beneath the surface. Tiger Woods has nothing, absolutely nothing, on this group!!!

In actuality, last season, and every season before that would've given us a skin for that hole since I believe we were the only birdie on the hole. But for the good of the organization, this year we've done away with skins and dumped that money into the flighting system whereby we pay off 4 places in 4 flights!! 64 folks actually won money yesterday - how about that?

Here's the way the flights all panned out: The scorecard playoff hole was #12 by the way.
