A very nice day for the middle of August. Not much of a breeze and there was some humidity but at least the temps were not in the 90's, or above. 103 of us ventured out on this immaculate course at the usual time, about 0800, and teed it up on our assigned holes.

I found the course to be in absolute excellent shape. The fairways were exceptional, perhaps the best we've played on all year. They weren't shaved within an inch of their lives, allowing the ball to sit up just enough to get a club on to our satisfaction - well at least some guys could.

The greens were good, but in my opinion we've played on better this year, at least condition-wise. Evidently a lot of the folks that normally play this course aren't aware of ball mark repair techniques. The greens, I thought, were quite pock-marked revealing a lack of care by the playing public. The marks didn't seem to deflect the ball all that much but it certainly was disconcerting to see that many of them on the greens.

A comment was made to one of the committee about playing this course more than once during our season. For sure we will discuss it at one of our committee retreats at the fancy resort we've discovered in a fashionable area of West County (Uncle Bill's Pancake Retreat). The only drawback to courses like Far Oaks and Stonewolf is the fact that they are at one end of the areal extremity of our player population and attendance isn't always what we'd like to see. But we can probably be coerced.

Anyway, back to golf. Today we may have set a record - the high score for the day was two under par!!! The low score was fourteen under par, and I believe this ties a record, for those that like records. It may be the course is set up too short to challenge us, but it's always nice to be able to believe our games have improved to the point where we can boast about our level of talent. But let's not get too heady over these scores, right?

One score to get heady about was Mr. Max Saunder's ace on #8!!! Great shot Max. It's not every day this kind of thing happens but evidently it's old hat to him. He can claim 5 of those babies. Don't know if you guys realize it, but along with the thrill of putting one in the hole, Max received an extra remuneration from the group, something we instituted this year. Along with the $10 for closest to the pin Max received an additional $50 for his effort!!! Congratulations Max.
