Well, by now we all know what happened yesterday; rain, rain, and more rain. Approximately 25 of us were either foolish enough or brave enough to arrive at Whitmoor in time to sign in, had we signed in. Don't know how many of these folks used the back way to get to the course (through the woods for several miles after getting off at the exit for Missouri Bluffs golf course) but that was very spooky in itself because of the rain, the dark, and the fear of deer charging across the road attracted by those elusive headlights.

Once there, we heard from the course that their phones were out compounding the issue. Many, many folks had tried to contact the course to tell them that they would not be attending, or just to find out if the course was even open. Bottom line, I'm not sure if the course ever opened for play yesterday.

Anyway, the clubhouse still had electricity so one wonders why no phone service. Come to find out they had just switched to Charter for their phones so somewhere either a cable got moisture in it, lightning dispatched it, or a squirrel chewed through it. For whatever reason the folks who tried in vain to contact the course were left out in the stormy weather. Strangely enough, the TV's were working in the room where we were gathered so perhaps their TV service is not Charter but some other more reliable source. In any event Murphy's Law was in full force yesterday. Something did go wrong just when it was needed the most. With apologies to our good friend and amazing golfer Tom Murphy, this is not one of his laws and he never abides by it.

Fortunately, Larry sent out an email when he got home and some of you were apprised of the situation and got enough advance warning to realize the luncheon would go ahead as planned at 12 o'clock.

And the luncheon was a big success. At last count amidst all the chaos we had somewhere between 10 and a thousand attendees (more like 117 actually) and rightfully so much so that I did not hear any complaints about the fare. The food, in my limited epicurean mind, was wonderful, and by that time of the day was unbeatable. Whitmoor did a fantastic job on this. Much better than their selection of weather!

To all that attended, thank you so much for your loyalty and we do hope to see you next season when we'll make every attempt to dodge the dodgy weather. Have a wonderful off-season and keep working on your games
