113 of us gathered at Pevely Farms on a windless Thursday morning to swing away once again in an attemp t to perform the act of a perfect game of golf. So much for the attempt. 113 being an odd number, and a prime number at that, we would normally have 3 threesomes in the mix, but the addition came at the last moment and we opted not to upset our normal early morning registration chaos by breaking up several teams just to create the threesomes, so we overloaded one team with a 5th player and fortunately for that team they seemed to do ok by posting a fair-to-middlin' -27 walking away with every possible award this group can even imagine. We also sell bridges in Brooklyn if anyone is interested.

This course was in quite good shape, which is nothing unusual since it's one of the finer venues along Lewis Road, which sports numerous courses for us to enjoy. By the way, what course owns that singular hole on the other side of the road adjacent to #3? It's surrounded by trees and seemingly has no access from any other part of the phantom course that it supposedly is part of. Any ideas?

Anyway, the fairways were quite nice, especially #10 which for the first time since I've played this course, they let us drive on. Can't figure that one out. We've never, ever, ever, been able to drive on this fairway. What gives PF??? And the greens were good, possibly a bit slow but still manageable. The only disparaging thought that came to my mind was the distance we had to play. The whites were at a published distance of 6200+ yards, which is a lot more than a stretch for an aging ball striker such as myself. And then the actual tee markers were set back on the box so the actual total yardage was quite a bit more than the published value. Ouch!!! We've got to make sure in the future that the course can be re-rigged to give the under 75 group a more reasonable yardage, like somewhere in the 5500-5700 range. Da Commish usually does this but we need to assist him (like remind him) in this responsibility for each of our outings. He's got a lot on his plate for each outing so we need to tweak his brain a bit before we blast off on that first tee again. Another item for the checklist.

But, the playing field was the same for everyone in that age bracket so we can't complain too much. And I certainly don't want to wish age on anyone just to qualify for the front tees.
