92 golfers showed up at the Innsbrook hideaway on what was supposed to be a hot day. Fortunately some timely breezes came up and we didn't really lose too much sweat as we worked our way around this layout. We'd not played here for 5 years and I was curious as to how much the place had changed, had the course deteriorated as some have due to lack of play, etc. The course was still in very good shape, although I heard one person say they didn't think so. Matter of opinion I guess. It appeared to me everything was pretty much as we left it those 5 long years ago. The houses around the course certainly haven't fallen into disrepair.

I heard sometime in the past that Jay Randolph had designed this course. Not sure if that's true but if it is he has, or had, some interesting thoughts on what a golf hole should look like. Number two comes immediately to mind. A 90 degree dogleg right with the fairway sloping away towards the water hazard makes for a dicey tee shot. And six, count 'em, six par 3's. Not a normal setup. I'm not sure if that was in the original plan or if it just worked out that way because of the available land and he had to somehow squeeze in 18 holes in X amount of acreage. Anyway, it's not really what you come to expect from a golf course.

Note :

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At this time it might be appropriate to review this scorecard playoff business. After the round, a random person picks one of 18 chips from a bag. On that chip is a number from 1 to 18. That number becomes the playoff hole. If the two, or more, teams that are vying for the lead in a flight are tied on that hole, we move to the next hole in order until one team outscores the other(s). If it ever happens that the teams in question have identical scorecards we would end up splitting the allocated prize money for that place in the flight. Now, if you're confused about this, we do have two former judges who play with us and you can take your questions to them and I'm sure they'll provide a much more reasonable answer than mine.

On another note, in the past we've advocated a scorecard per cart where the driver of each cart keeps score so they can be compared at the end of the round to avoid any confusion as to total score, or score per hole. The captain is still responsible for turning in the official score card. Yesterday, the course did not provide additional cards but they are always available at the pro desk.

Notes are done, on to the flight business.
