Gentlemen:

The results for Gateway National are in and the weather won, all 4 flights! Our foursome finished 3 holes, some had 4 and one claimed 5, although I'd question that. In our defense, we started on #4, a long par 3 about 2 miles from the clubhouse so it took us a while to get into it. In case you're wondering why in the world we played when the storms were imminent, well, we have an agreement with the courses we play that as long as the course is open we play. If = it begins to rain in earnest before we begin and it doesn't appear to want to let up, we will refund all the fees collected. This has happened once as far as I recall. When we began there was no rain and for a while it almost seemed like it would slide by. As we all know, the slide didn't work and as soon as we heard the thunder and caught a glimpse of lightning we wisely headed for the clubhouse.

Since everyone who played also paid, the committee decided to refund the $5 prize fund. Talk about an exercise in three-ring-circus practice! Initially we didn't think we had enough $5 bills to accommodate the 86 folks who were getting their investment back so we made the announcement that those who had a $5 bill we would give them a $10 bill in exchange. Somehow I think your extremely honest committee came out ahead on this deal. You wouldn't believe how many guys came with a $5 bill in hand wanting to help us out. We just hope that everyone went away with some version of $5 in their hand, $5 more than the $37 they initially i nvested.

Oh, and speaking of the $37 investment, everyone who remained afterwards was given a certificate for a round of golf at Gateway National to be used by the end of next July. If you can't use it (and you CANNOT use it for our next tournament there next season) you can always sell it to your buddy for a good price, at least $32. On a special note; not all folks stayed around for this giveaway and we do have less than 5 of these certificates remaining, so if you attended today, but left early, you can still claim your certificate. But, be aware, we checked the names of the recipients so you won't be able to double up - sorry.
