We ended up fielding 100 players for this event after 13 cancellations sent Larry and the committee into semi-shock trying to rearrange teams in time for our tee off. Please, in the future, if you know you might not make it please let us know, if possible, even before we publish the pairings on Sunday. It makes for a much smoother operation and a lot less running around chasing after people to put them in their proper carts the day of the event. We can understand last minute medical reasons but if you know there's no way you can play the next Thursday, even tho you've signed up, please give us advance notice before Sunday.

Far Oaks was in outstanding condition, there's no other way to describe it. The fairways were gorgeous, the best we've seen all year, and the greens were quite good also. They were a bit soft which led to quite a few ball marks, but yet they ran true, if we putted in the proper direction. The only comment might be that they were doing something with the myriad of traps, either eliminating them or re-doing them. Far Oaks is blessed, or cursed, with a lot of traps and it appears the management is changing them in some way.

For some reason this course always has yielded some low scores and this outing was no exception. In fact, one team set a new low score mark for the ACS group, 16 under par, a phenomenal tally when you think of our ages. The winning group did it in remarkable fashion, shooting 10 under on the back nine with at least a birdie on each hole from 10 to 18. Truly amazing. But then some of these guys were hitting from the red tees which one could barely see from the whites.

Flight A

Setting the pace for everyone for today and in First the future was the wonderful team of Ed Boyer, Dan Ottoline, Jim Hawkes, and John Dierker. As mentioned, these guys blistered this course in 16 under par, with an amazing -10 on the backside. One can only wonder why, or how, they screwed up the front 9. Observers watched while these guys put their approaches methodically within 10 feet on almost every green. No wonder they put up such a small number. Rest assured the computer will probably not have them together EVER AGAIN and it just may be that they might not ever even catch glimpse of each other on a golf course that we play in the future.

Five stro kes off this torrid pace were two teams that shot astounding 61's. Because of the SCP on hole #14 in Second the Art Soble, Phil Helm, Jack Reiner, and Doug Torrie team bested the Thrid place Bob Pahmeier, Charlie Riedisser and Tom Gill team.

Two teams, the Pierre Sans Souci and Larry Willman squads, followed up with 62's, while the Bill Clark and Tom Murphy teams had 63's.

Flight B

Three teams managed -8 (64) scores but coming out First was the Russ Wall, Dennis Terhaar, Alex Horvat, and Bob Meinhardt team over the Second place team of Joe Cernich, Dave Gillett, George Keil, and Doug Nolte team, Thrid the Ernie South, Lou Pessoni, Al Rosenberg, and John Boyd team.

Following up, and all with 65's, were the Joe Goines team, the Paul Vil lhard team, the Ed de la Pena team, and the Jim Waugh team.

Flight C

Four teams tied with 66's for First in this flight but winning via the SCP was the John O'Toole, Wayne Warneke, Mark Hagler, and Bill Wegge team, Second by the Wayne Lamborn, Mark Gordon, Bill Howell, and Dennis O'Connor team and Thrid place the Jerry Mullen, Earl Phillips, Bob Edwards, and Larry Knopfel team.

The Ted Isringhaus team also had a 66 but fell out of the top 3 because of the SCP. Following up with 67's were the Phil Lucido team and the Jack Panula team.

Flight D

Four teams tied atop this flight with -4 (68) but in First the Jack Eckhard, Frank Greening, Jeff Delaplain, and Ollie Sivcovich team beat out Second plac the Dee Ridenhour, Ron Muse, Dan Fergus, and Don Schmidt team and in Thrid place Paul Rivard, Joe Mullins, Steve Dierker, and Ron Martens team.

Also shooting a 68 but losing out in the SCP was the Bob Thibodeaux team. Batting cleanup with a 69 was the Paul Pals team.

It should be fair to note here that all teams finished below par, a feat not too often accomplished by this group.
